Bangalore families booked 1,200 slots for Saturday workshops at the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum on Kasturba Road by Friday afternoon.

Schools across the city closed for the second week of summer holidays on 6 July, sending households to search for activities that fit both monsoon weather and tight budgets. Parents report spending more time on indoor options after three days of steady rain that turned Cubbon Park lawns soggy.

Indoor sessions fill fast

The Visvesvaraya museum runs a robotics session for ages eight to twelve at 10 am on Saturdays, limited to 40 children per batch. A separate planetarium show starts at 3 pm and costs Rs 40 per child. Across town in Koramangala, the Indian Music Experience at the Pebble Bay clubhouse offers a 90-minute instrument-handling class every Sunday morning for Rs 250 per family of four.

Attendance records show the museum drew 2,800 visitors last weekend, up 18 percent from the same date in 2025. Staff added an extra robotics batch after the first two filled within four hours of opening registration on 9 July.

Shaded park trails still draw crowds

Early-morning walks at Lalbagh Botanical Garden on Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road continue at 7 am, with the horticulture department supplying umbrellas to groups of ten or more. The garden recorded 4,500 entries on the previous Sunday, mostly families who finished before the heaviest showers arrived at noon.

Practical advice: confirm timings on the museum website or call the Lalbagh ticket counter at 080-2657-8900 before leaving home, because both sites close at 5 pm during the rains. Arrive by 9 am on Sunday to avoid the afternoon queue that stretches past the main gate on Bannerghatta Road.
