Bengaluru's Tech Sector Attracts Record Startup Funding and Global Expansions
The city's combination of dominant startup funding, large professional workforce and major campus additions sets it apart from other global tech centers.
How we reported this

Bengaluru dominated India's Q1 2026 startup scene with $823 million in funding across 89 deals, outpacing Delhi NCR and Mumbai. This lead comes as the city hosts nearly 40 percent of India's IT industry and generates over $17 billion in annual revenue.
The scale matters because Bengaluru accounts for over 35 percent of India's total IT exports while holding the largest tech workforce in the Asia-Pacific region with over 1 million professionals. Those numbers place the city ahead of many competitors on workforce size alone and support continued expansion even as some firms trim staff elsewhere.
Named expansions and community reach
Google is adding 2.6 million square feet in Whitefield while Amazon opened a 1.1 million square foot campus near the airport as of March 2026. At the same time the city counted 28 active tech communities with more than 221,000 combined members as of July 2026, including ReactJS Bangalore and the Bangalore AI Developers Group.
The 2025 Global Startup Ecosystem Report ranked Bengaluru 14th worldwide, a seven-spot gain from the prior year, and placed it fifth globally in AI and big-data ecosystems. The city also reported over 16,000 to 19,000 startups and between 32 and 53 unicorns.
Job market signals and next steps
IT sector job growth in 2026 is driven by AI, cloud computing and cybersecurity roles, with average annual salaries ranging from 15 to 25 lakhs and senior positions exceeding 40 lakhs. Over 7,000 IT positions were listed for the city on LinkedIn during the period.
