Bengaluru Youth Football Leagues Expand with New Age-Group Competitions
Local programs run by state bodies and private organisers continue to add age-group competitions and guaranteed matches for city players.
How we reported this

Karnataka State Football Association youth leagues will again field at least 15 teams across each of six age groups when the new season begins later this year. The competitions cover Under-7 through Under-17 divisions and form the core of organised play for Bengaluru children seeking regular fixtures.
Building match opportunities after earlier gaps
The 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup showed the shortage of game-ready players available across India. Coaches had to search widely because few youngsters had played enough competitive matches. Bengaluru organisers responded by launching structured leagues that now guarantee multiple games per season rather than the three-match group stage that once limited district play.
Players who joined The Amateur League after 2014 received 10 to 12 fixtures with referees and post-match analysis. One former participant moved from those matches to the Sports Authority of India, represented India at junior level and later won the Indian Super League with Mumbai City FC. Current organisers hope the same route opens for more city teenagers.
Current programmes and facilities in Bengaluru
The Karnataka State Football Association began its youth programme in 2019. Double Pass India launched its Development League the same year for Under-7, 9, 11 and 13 categories. The Amateur League added its own youth divisions this year in Under-13, 15 and 19 age groups. Bappaditya Bhattacharjee of Roots Football Club notes that academies in Bengaluru have risen above 40 in the past three years.
Most training still occurs on artificial surfaces. The Sree Kanteerava Stadium remains the main natural-grass option accessible to academy teams. Organisers say the combination of more teams and more matches is already producing players who understand match loads and recovery better than earlier generations.
Parents and coaches planning for the coming months can register teams directly with the Karnataka State Football Association or contact Sports Paddock for The Amateur League slots. Early entry helps secure fixtures before schedules fill.
