Army Boys Sports Dominates U17 Community League in Bangalore's Youth Football Season
The city’s youth sporting calendar is in full swing, with football, tennis and running events drawing hundreds of young athletes onto the field this month.
How we reported this
The Community League Youth U17 2026 tournament kicked off in Bangalore on March 31 with a 3-0 victory for Army Boys Sports Coy, according to organisers. The match, played at a venue in the city, marked the start of a month-long competition that runs until April 28 and features emerging teams including Army Boys Sports Coy and Alchemy.
The early result sets the tone for what organisers describe as a key platform for young football talent in the city. The league is one of several youth football programmes active in Bengaluru this season, part of a broader push to develop grassroots sport across Karnataka.
Football academies and leagues multiply
Bangalore’s youth football landscape now includes more than 40 academies, according to the Karnataka State Football Association. The KSFA runs its own youth leagues for categories ranging from Under-7 to Under-17, with at least 15 teams per age group. Separately, Double Pass India’s DPDL programme, which engages over 10,000 children annually across the country, operates leagues for ages 7 to 13 in the city.
Sports Paddock’s TAL initiative launched new youth leagues in 2025 for Under-13, Under-15 and Under-19 groups, adding further depth to the grassroots infrastructure. The KSFA programme itself was established in 2019.
The city’s football scene extends beyond organised leagues. According to PlayO app data, football is the second most-booked sport in the city, accounting for 4,035 sessions, trailing only badminton. The figure underscores the sport’s growing popularity among Bangalore’s youth.
Tennis clinic draws 60-plus young players
On the tennis side, over 60 budding players from Bengaluru attended a professional clinic at the KSLTA Stadium during the 2025 Bengaluru Open. Coaches included national gold medallists and international doubles finalists, offering hands-on training to the next generation of tennis talent.
Basketball is also part of the youth sport picture in the city. Hoops Genesis, an academy in Bellandur that has operated since 2015, teaches young players basketball skills alongside life lessons in discipline and mental health, according to its founders.
With the Community League Youth U17 tournament still ongoing and other youth football leagues scheduled in the months ahead, the immediate calendar is packed. The Bengaluru Ultra 2026, offering distances from 5km to 50km, is set for July 26 and organised by MEB Sports. Later in the year, the 13th edition of the Namma Run Bengaluru marathon is scheduled for October 11 at St. Joseph’s Ground, UB City.
For parents and young athletes looking to get involved, the next few weeks offer multiple entry points, whether through football trials, tennis clinics at KSLTA, or running events that start as short as 5km.
