Bengaluru Moves Ahead on Road and Rail Projects This Week
Approvals and tender activity continue for major infrastructure works including an underground tunnel and the Peripheral Ring Road.

Bengaluru approved an 18.5-km underground twin-tube tunnel road between Hebbal and Silk Board at an estimated cost of ₹12,690 crore, with tenders expected after a September DPR submission. This step follows earlier planning stages and forms part of the city’s current infrastructure push.
Peripheral Ring Road Progress
The Peripheral Ring Road received Cabinet approval in May 2025 for ₹17,780 crore under a BOOT model. Global tenders were floated in July 2025 for two 8.7-km packages, and bids are currently under evaluation. These packages represent the latest active procurement phase for the project.
Namma Metro and Suburban Rail Updates
Namma Metro aims for a 175 km network by 2027, with 41 km operational in 2026 including the Pink Line and Blue Line stretches. Phase 2B extends to Kempegowda International Airport via a 36.4 km corridor. Separately, the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project covers a 148-km network across four corridors with 64 stations and targets phased rollout by 2026, with construction now begun at Kasturi Nagar after earlier delays.
Road White-Topping Initiative
Over 450 km of roads across Bengaluru will be white-topped over the next three years at an estimated cost of ₹3,000 crore as part of the Brand Bengaluru initiative. This work covers multiple stretches and forms a separate component of the city’s road improvement programme.
