How we reported this

The Karnataka government implemented the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024, dissolving the BBMP and creating a Chief Minister-led Greater Bengaluru Authority to oversee five city corporations divided into ten zones. This marks a major change in Bengaluru's municipal framework.
Corporations and Wards: The Core Counts
Five new municipal corporations-Bengaluru West, South, North, East, and Central-were officially notified to replace the single BBMP. Each corporation is set with approximately 150 wards, producing a total of roughly 750 wards across the city. These figures replace the former unified BBMP structure and establish the middle layer of the new administration.
Three-Tier Structure and Election Timeline
The civic administration has transitioned to a three-tier structure with the Greater Bengaluru Authority at the top, the five municipal corporations in the middle, and ward committees at the grassroots level. Bengaluru has now gone without an elected municipal council or mayor for over five years. No elections for the new bodies have been held yet.
Property Rules
The state Cabinet granted legal status to B-Khata properties issued between 2009 and September 30, 2024. Rules were also eased by removing the mandatory Occupancy Certificate requirement for small plots of 30x40 ft or smaller. These changes apply to properties documented within the stated window and size limits.
Residents and property owners can track updates through official notifications from the Greater Bengaluru Authority and the five new corporations as further steps unfold.
