Bangalore BBMP Dissolved: GBA Structure & Elections 2026

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike was dissolved and replaced by the Greater Bengaluru Authority as the Chief Minister-led apex body. This change established a three-tier governance structure that includes the GBA, five new municipal corporations, plus ward committees. As of now, no elected councils or mayors have been installed in those corporations.

Current Status of the New Corporations

The five corporations operate without elected leadership, leaving day-to-day administration under the GBA framework. Ward committees remain part of the structure but lack elected representatives at the corporation level. This situation means routine civic decisions continue through the interim arrangement while formal councils are still pending.

Property and Development Changes Already Enacted

The state Cabinet granted legal status to B-Khata properties issued between 2009 and a recent date. It also removed the mandatory Occupancy Certificate requirement for small sites up to a certain size. These measures affect property owners across the expanded city limits and simplify approvals for smaller developments.

Boundary Expansion and Integration Tasks

The Greater Bengaluru Governance Act expanded the city's administrative boundaries. This step integrated several town bodies and gram panchayats into the unified structure. Completing the handover of functions and records from these bodies remains an ongoing task for the GBA.

Decisions Ahead for the Authority

With elections still pending, the GBA must determine timelines and procedures for installing councils and mayors in the five corporations.
